Massachussetts iRacers Win First Face to Face Club
Competition Race
Daniel Rowe - 07-Aug-2009
Club
Massachusetts had a strong start to the first ever
Face-to-Face Club Competitions presented by
Jax Coffee
this week. Hosted by
iRacerstuff.com,
with the help of club Massachusetts own Mark Royer, six
clubs will face-off against each other through a ten week
schedule, followed by a 3 week brackets-playoff, to
determine the inaugural
iRacerstuff.com
Face to Face Club Series champion.
The First week showcased late models at USA Speedway. Club
Massachusetts was matched against Club Illinois to see who
would start the season on a good note. Fifty laps of intense
late model action, and 5 different race splits later, Club
Massachusetts proved the victor, by a score of 16 to 61, low
score winning. In fact, Club Massachusetts managed the
lowest score of the entire week with two wins, a second,
fifth, and seventh.
Club Massachusetts had nine drivers turnout to secure the
victory over Illinois. The drivers are listed below
with their finishing position.
1st- Kevin V Turcotte
1st- Thomas Mackey
2nd- Mark Royer
5th- Mark Surprenant
7th- Daniel Rowe
8th- Alan Pontbriand
9th- JP Smith
9th- Adam Goldberg
11th- Scott Freeman

Club Mass To
Visit iRacing.com
Mark Royer - 05-Aug-2009
Arrangements
have been completed with Steve Potter of
iRacing.comTM
and Club Massachusetts is scheduled for a visit to the
iRacing offices in Bedford, Massachusetts on Wednesday,
August 26th at 3PM ET. The visit will include a tour of the
iRacing facility and a meeting with Dave Kaemmer to discuss
heretofore undisclosed topics of "keen interest to club
members". It should be a very interesting visit.
The visit is limited to 12 club members on a
first-come-first-serve basis. Respond in
this forum thread if you wish to go.

Massachusetts placed a number of drivers on the podium for
overall iRacing Global honors in various divisions (the left column

The right column is the results of the internal Club

participants!

It
was among the
coolest, dampest Junes on record in
Massachusetts. Given that
Club
Massachusetts is running neck and neck with
Connecticut for fifth (aka last) in the
Northeastern Region standings of the
World
Cup of iRacing, you could say their
performance reflects the weather. But the local
weather hasn’t dampened Club Massachusetts’
enthusiasm for the World Cup of iRacing; nor did it
prevent the club from staging a
Bar-B-Q and
simulator-building party at the home of
Ray
Bryden, in Holden, MA in June.
In addition to the unique simulator-building
exercise (more on that later), the
party
was a
first for all the iRacers in attendance.
“Not a single one of us had ever seen each other
before the party,” explains
Mark
Royer, Manager of Club Massachusetts. “Some
of us have gotten to know each other online through
iRacing and other race simulators, but this was the
first time any of us met one another
face-to-face.
“We’ve been trying to build a sense of
community within the club, but it’s hard when
the focus of our activities is online. It’s not like
we’re fishing buddies or even a group of friends who
physically get together to attend races. So we have
to make a special effort to get people from an
online community together. The good thing is
you’re never more than three hours away from someone
in Massachusetts, so it’s a little easier for us
than
Club South America or
Australia!”
In addition to the Bar-B-Q, the get-together focused
on “Cockpits
for Humanity,” the Club’s tongue-in-cheek
title for their effort to build simulators for
members in need of
quality SIM-space. Using plans provided by
Jeff
Strong, their own
power
tools and a hefty quantity of
MDF,
the members completed all the prep work (cutting,
routing, sanding) for two simulators at the party.
Two members took the pieces home. At last report,
one of the SIMs has been assembled and needs only a
coat of paint before it’s ready for action.
Royer considers the Bar-B-Q and SIM-building party a
success and says Club Massachusetts is looking to
stage another group event in the near future, be it
a visit to
F1
Boston’s indoor kart track,
Seekonk Speedway (the state’s only
operational auto racing facility) or perhaps even a
visit to the iRacing.com mother ship in
Bedford, just outside of Boston.
Meanwhile, there’s the lingering issue of Club
Massachusetts’ performance in the World Cup of
iRacing standings. In order to qualify for the
inaugural round of this unique global, team-style
competition, a club must win first at least one of
the four 12-week-long
Regional Season Club Championships
(RSCC) staged each year. Clubs that win one
or more RSCCs advance to the
Regional Annual Club Championship (RACC) to
determine the year’s top club in each region. The
regional champions then meet in the
World
Cup of iRacing Final to compete for trophies,
prizes and, of course, the honor of being crowned
World
Cup of iRacing Champions.
Given that Club Massachusetts placed
fifth in the Northeastern Region standings in
2009 Season 1, and that they are trailing
Club
New York by some 10,000 points in Season 2,
they will have to enjoy a
remarkable turnaround in Season 3 or 4 to
qualify for the RACC, slated for January 26-31,
2010.
Not that Royer is defensive, but he suggests there’s
more than meets the eye to the situation.
“Don’t click on ‘All
Series,’” he laughs. “Click on ‘Late
Models.’ We’re first in Late Models!”
Like a growing number of iRacing regions, Club
Massachusetts has its own
web
site to augment the iRacing members site in
keeping track of local activities and even promoting
future get-togethers like the
Bar-B-Q/SIM-building party. At their next
gathering, perhaps Club Massachusetts can devise a
way to transfer some of that Late Model form to “All
Series.”

Club Mass
Bar-B-Que - 2009
Mark Royer - 21-Jun-2009
The rain threatened all day but held off and we all had a
great time yacking, eating and building cockpits. Little did
Dan Rowe and Saleem know that "cockpits for humanity" really
meant build your own cockpit. In true motorsports fashion,
our BBQ ignored the nice lawn and pool out back in favor of
the asphalt drive and cement garage.
Thanks to Ray Bryden for hosting the event and Jeff Strong
for leading the cockpit building effort. And thanks to all
the guys to made the trek to Holden to make the event a
success.
To those who couldn't make it, we'll see ya next time!

Bar-B-Que Time
Mark Royer - 07-Jun-2009
Club Massachusetts is holding it's first get-together in the
form of a Bar-B-Que. We will probably set up a couple
wheels/pedals and give some live-action sim-racing a go as
well. We may possibly even build a cockpit.
So, if you're interested in attending check this thread in
the Club Mass forums for details:
